Auguste Denis Lagoute created the original Creme de Cassis in Dijon in 1841; the company carries the name of Henri Lejay, who married Lagoute’s daughter Elizabeth and brought the company to major commercial success. Lejay is made from two different varieties of black currant; it is natural and powerful, essence of ripe berries, without being too sweet.
