La Magia was founded in the early 1970s by Harald Schwartz who, having been struck by the beauty of Tuscany, moved here from Alto Adige; since 2011 it has been in the capable hands of his son Fabian, who studied at Italy’s top school of oenology, Agrario San Michele. The vineyards here include a block of some 38 acres of 40-year-old vines, all Sangiiovese and registered exclusively to Brunello. La Magia’s Brunello is aged three years in French oak, then an additional six months in bottle; it is a wine of surprising freshness and acidity supported by velvety tannins and leading to a silky and seemingly endless finish.
