João Portugal Ramos has been acclaimed as one of the main figures responsible for the development of Portuguese wines during the last thirty years. From modest beginnings in his home region of the Alentejo, Ramos now helms the João Portugal Ramos Group, with additional wine operations in Beiras, Douro, and Vinhos Verdes; in 2016 the group also acquired the Carvalho Ribeiro & Ferreira brandy brand and has significant interests in olive oil and vinegar as well. Son João Maria joined the firm in 2014, insuring continuity of the Ramos family brand. Their Marques de Borba line is one of their most iconic brands, known for exceptional quality and deep-rooted connection to the Alentejo region. This red is a blend of six different grapes, most native to the area but including Merlot and Petit Verdot; it has great aromatic richness and a balance of fruit, acidity, ad tannin on the palate with a dry, lingering finish.
