The Anguera family has been farming in the Catalan region of Montsant for seven generations. The current generation, represented by brothers Josip and Joan, after having worked abroad for some years, took control with the idea of taking the winery in a new direction. They converted to biodynamic practices, achieving Demeter certification in 2008, and they transitioned to whole-cluster fermentation using indigenous yeasts, fermentation in concrete vessels, and the use of neutral oak barrels. “Altaroses” is Joan d’Anguera’s “village” Garnaxta (Grenache) made from younger vines (10-35 years old) sourced from 22 acres of vineyards surrounding their cellars in Darmós; it is a powerful and vibrant Montsant with a beautiful fruit freshness and great depth of flavor.
