“Jack from Brooklyn” is Jackie Summers, a native of the Caribbean islands, and “Jack from Brooklyn” is his artisanal enterprise located in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn and dedicated to the production of Sorel, a unique hibiscus-based liqueur popular in the islands for which Summers had labored for years to recreate the recipe. The liqueur is unlike anything found here in the States. Fragrant with clove and cinnamon, the bright pinkish/purple-colored serum is reminiscent of a fruity, slightly sweet juice you may have loved as a kid but with mature flavors such as cassia, ginger, nutmeg and hibiscus.
