The Guigal name is synonymous with the Côte-Rôtie area, for bringing this great wine region to prominence, and for owning three times as much land as next largest land-owner, vinifying a third of the total appellation, and unquestionably holding the finest sites here. Guigal has always made “Brune et Blonde,” as the name would indicate, as a blend of grapes from the two different vineyard areas: the wines from the Cote Brune are typically darker, meatier, firmer, more tannic and more austere when young, while those from the Cote Blonde are softer, silkier, more floral in character. And also typical for Guigal, the Syrah is co-fermented with a healthy splash of Viognier. From a strong vintage for the appellation, this is classic Cote-Rotie, rich and fleshy, with a very silky texture and fine tannins with a long, complete finish.
