Donatella Cinelli Colombini is a legendary pioneer in the world of wine. With a long history in Tuscany - her great-grandfather, Giovanni Colombini was one of the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello - Donatella has worked tirelessly not only to craft incredible wine but also to champion the role of women working in the wine industry. In recent years Donatella Cinelli Colombini has taken on a role that goes beyond titles and wines. Founder of the Wine Tourism Movement, creator of Cantine Aperte and a university lecturer specializing in wine marketing, she decided in 1998 to leave the family estate and establish her own Fattoria del Colle at Trequande and the Casato Prime Donne at Montalcino. It was one of the first wineries to be run entirely by women. Her Chianti Superiore represents a selection of the better grapes from the Fattoria del Colle vineyards, almost entirely Sangiovese with just a few complementary clusters of other varietals added in; it is a classic Chianti, classically elegant, with the distinctive aroma of violets typical of the grape.
