Stéphane Robert is regarded as a rising star in Cornas amongst Rhône producers and wine critics alike. He started his domaine in 1996, when he was in his mid-twenties, and has added parcels over the years. He now holds a little more than thirty acres of vines across the northern Rhone. He named his domaine after his quirky cellar, which lies in a long converted railway tunnel. As this Saint Joseph indicates, Robert aims for fruit intensity rather than oak; this is a modern Saint Joseph, a powerful expression of the Syrah grape, with lots of dark fruit and a long finish.
