Domaine Mathieu Cosme (aka, Domaine de Beaumont) is is located just outside of Noizay, a village fronting the Loire in the far southeastern corner of Vouvray. It was founded in 1930, and Mathieu represents the fifth generation in the family at the domaine. Mathieu’s reputation is for making powerful, dry, and precise cuvees of Chenin Blanc from his 33 acres of vines, which has led him to being recognized as one of the rising stars of Vouvray. The “Les Enfers” vineyard is located on the premiere cote of Vouvray, the plateau where all the great vineyards of Vouvray are situated due to its shallower soils and ideal southern exposure it is known for producing opulently rich but precise and dry wines, which is exactly what we have here.
