The De Forvilles immigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848 and established themselves in the village of Barbaresco in 1860; in 1907 Paolo Anfosso married into the DeForville family and took over the reins of the family business, but it was only in 1940 that they began bottling their own wines. Now the fifth generation is in place, in the persons of Valter and Paolo Anfosso. The nearly 28-acre domaine is divided between holdings in the villages of Barbaresco and Castagnole Lanze. Violets, cinnamon spice, licorice, and floral notes meld together seamlessly on this single-vineyard Barbaresco; with nice purity and excellent balance, the wine is certain to age gracefully.
