Son of the first King of Italy, Emanuele Alberto, the Count of Mirafiore, established this estate in 1878, forming it from holdings in both Fontanafredda and Barolo. The brand vanished during the depression years, but in 2008 Oscar Farinetti and Luca Baffigo Filangieri, owners of Eataly, purchased a large portion of the Fontanafredda estate and revived the Casa E. Di Mirafiore label, at the same time taking ownership Fontanafredda, one of Piedmont's largest wineries. Under their leadership the estate has returned to serious acclaim, the merits evidenced by this entry-level bottling. This is a rich version of the Nebbiolo grape, with a fleshy texture enveloping cherry and red berry fruit flavors accented by wild herbs and a chalky feel on the finish.
