Château du Hureau is one of the only wine-producing châteaux in the Loire and it is among the top producers of Saumur-Champigny. Lcated near the banks of the Loire, abour four miles east of the town of Saumur, it has been in the Vatan family for generations and is today run by fifth-generation vigneron Philippe Vatan and his daughter Agathe. The estate encompasses some 43 acres made of of 21 individual parcels planted to a mix of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. “La Tuffe, named for the tuffeau, the soft chalky limestone-rich soil of the vineyards, is 100% Cab Franc, a blend of grapes from 15 different parcels of young and old vines; aged in stainless steel, it has classic Cabernet Franc notes that include black raspberry and just the right amount of savory herbs while finishing with well-integrated tannins.
