The wines of what we know today as Chateau Canon have been established St. Emilion wines since at least 1770. Over the years the property went through several changes in ownership, and in 1996 it was sold to Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, the owners of Chanel. They made it their first order of business to replant much of the vineyard, which had fallen into poor conditions, a process that is still continuing to this day. The chateau also underwent an extensive renovation, which was completed in 2015. Traditionally Chateau Canon is a stylish Bordeaux with a real sensation of minerality, ripe dark berries, licorice and spicy scents, coupled with an opulent personality, but it does often take at least 10-15 or more years before it is open and ready to drink. A blend of roughly 70/30 Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this is an elegant, refined Bordeaux offering a fresh, delicate pure plum and cherry profile.
