This estate was originally called Brane-Mouton, but in 1833 the Baron of Brane, known as the “Napoleon of the vineyards,” sold off part of the property to the Rothschilds; the part he kept he renamed “Brane-Cantenac.” Today it is one of many Bordeaux properties in the control of the Lurton family, being managed by Henri Lurton. The estate vineyard is planted to a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenere, which was introduced only in 2011. Margaux de Brane is the estate's third wine, an attractive, juicy entry-level offering to drink now and over the next few years. Dark plum, chocolate, leather, licorice and grilled herb notes are nicely pushed forward in this succulent Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine.
