The Autréau family has been a presence in the village of Champillon, in the Champagne region, since 1670; they are in the heart of the region, with vineyards overlooking the city of Epernay. . Originally a family of artists (with works today at the palace of Versailles and in the Louvre), they shortly turned to grape growing, selling their fruit to the big negociant houses. It was only at the start of the 1950s that Gérard Autréau opted to hold back his grapes to produce a Chanpagne under his own label. Today the house remains in the Autréau family, now run by Gérard’s grandson Laurent. Aware of the stakes of climate change, they have transitioned towards sustainable viticulture. Autréau is currently a member of the Magister Network, a viticultural monitoring network that limits the maximum number of interventions and mandates the use only environmentally-friendly products. This Premier Cru Extra Brut is a classic blend of Pinot Noir (40 %), Pinot Meunier (40 %) and Chardonnay (20 %); it is fresh, delicate and elegant, with a soft character and ripe fruitiness.
