Located in Edna Valley in California's Central Coast, this winery started life as Domaine Alfred, founded in 1994 by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Terry Speizer. The winery quickly gained recognition for its Pinot Noirs, but its Chardonnay, Grenache and Syrah earned outstanding marks as well. In 2008 the wiinery, a 131-acre property including 81 acres of vines, was acquired by the Napa-based Crimson Wine Group, owner of Pine Ridge in Napa, Archery Summit in Oregon's Willamette Valley, and Double Canyon Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA of Washington state; Crimson renamed the winery to honor its legendary vineyard, Chamisal. Their Central Coast Unoaked Chardonnay is all about purity and focus. Tropical fruit aromas lead to a rounded palate, with crisp acidity and a clean, lingering finish.
