Located in Evora, in the Alentejo region of Portugal, Adega Cartuxa is housed in the Quinta do Valbom estate which was built in 1540 as a residence for Jesuit priests and became part of the Portuguese National Heritage in 1755. The winery was founded in 1896 and today operates under the auspices of the Eugenio Almeida Foundation, which is devoted to a wide range of agricultural projects. Their 750 acres of vineyards make them one of the largest and most prestigious operations in the region. A blend of mostly Alicante Bouchet, Aragonez and Trincadeira, done in neutral oak, this red is elegant and well- structured with persistent and complex flavors.
