Toward the end of the 1970s Giovanni Battista Cantele and his wife Teresa Manara decided to consolidate thirty years of experience in the wine world of northern Italy and bring their expertise to the region of Puglia, and several other areas where they saw tremendous potential. During the 1980s their two sons, Augusto and Domenico, took over, continuing their parents' joint focus on both native and international grape varieties, then passing the reins to the next generation, Gianni, Paolo, Umberto and Luisa.
Their Susumaniello has complex notes of red fruit, currant, and prune on the nose. These are complemented by notes of black cherry, thyme, with a slightly flinty finish a perfect accompaniment to juicy roasts and aged cheeses.
