The timbered home that houses this family-owned estate in Hainfeld, in the Pfalz region of Germany, was built in 1619, but the estate in its current form is far more recent than that. In 1990 Annette Borell and Thomas Diehl married and created Borell-Diehl by joining their families' three wineries into one. Starting with a little more than 12 acres, they have since expanded to nearly 80 acres. Having done internships at several top wineries in Germany as well as in New Zealand. oldest son George has recently taken over the leadership of the estate. This is classic Gewurztraminer, highly aromatic with just a hint of sweetness, the perfect foil for judiciously spiced dishes.
