Making a life in wine was virtually inevitable for Charles Bieler. His father Philippe founded Chateau Routas, which quickly earned a stellar reputation for its reds and roses. Fresh out of college, Charles bought a Cadillac de Ville, painted it pink, and toured the country selling his father’s rose out of the trunk of the car. In 2005 they sold Routas and established Bieler Pere et Fils (for rosé only), then Bieler Family Wines, which currently produces a Washington State Cabernet called Born to Run and five wines in their “Daisy” line. This, obviously, is their Provence rosé (they also produce one from Bandol), a Grenache-dominated five-grape blend with aromas of peaches, lively acidity, and a round palate with some depth and grip.
