Daniel Arellano Martinez, founder of San Bartolo Mezcal, has been living in Brooklyn, since 2007. He had a plan to introduce his own mezcal—the first ever from the San Bartolo Yautepec Valley of Oaxaca—in 2020, starting with New York bars and restaurants. Though it hardly filled the gap left by the bar shutdown, working with retailers he helped get 200 bottles delivered by bicycle. Happily, he was able to deliver to us! San Bartolo Mezcal Artesanal is a unique Mexican spirit distilled by four generations of Maestros Mezcaleros in the San Bartolo Yautepec Valley, and now by Maestro Mezcalero Valentin Martinez Lopez. It has delicate herbal and fresh mineral notes with a particular clean smoky character.
