Part of the Brown-Forman portfolio, Old Forester dates from 1870, when George Garvin Brown first sealed bourbon in a bottle, making this America’s first bottled bourbon; five generations and nearly 150 years later, Old Forester remains the careful concern of the Brown family. Their rye adheres to an historic recipe acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I, calling for a 65/20/15 mash bill of rye, malted barley, and corn. The generous percentage of malt yields a unique floral character, balancing the sharp, brisk spice of the rye grain. This new expression, bottled unfiltered and at barrel strength, is the first new product from the distillery in more than 150 years. It offers a classic rye character, peppery and well-spiced, with a not too overpowering rye bite and a solid finish.
