Located in Zadar, in Croatia, Maraska, as the name might indicate, is best known for its production of maraschino, a liqueur obtained from the distillation of Marasca cherries. The company was founded in 1768 by Francesco Drioli, who emigrated to Zadar from Istria. And while production originally focused on maraschino, over the years other fruit liqueurs were added to their portfolio, including this plum brandy. Maraska Slivovitz is a pure, natural plum brandy made from the finest ripe blue plums grown in the rich soil of the Adriatic hinterland, the second largest plum-growing area in the world, and doubble-distiled. "Slivovitz" is the common name for Croatian plum brandy from the former Yugoslavia. Kosher Slivovitz is made under strict kosher guidelines that allows this brandy to be "Kosher For Passover."
