Organized in 2016, “Mal Bien” is the working name for a group of mezcal aficionados who spend their time traveling throughout Mexico, searching out traditional mezcal producers whose production they then bottle and export under the “Mal Bien” name. Mal Bien Zacate Limón is an original recipe from the late maestro mezcalero Lucio Morales Lopez in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca, who first created it as a gift for his wife; it is now produced by his son Oscar Morales. Freshly cut lemongrass is added to the stills before the second distillation, and a bit more is macerated in the finished product for an extra touch of aromatics and color. The result is a bright and lively expression of espadín that makes for a great highball.
