Maker's Mark is a handcrafted, small-batch bourbon whiskey distilled in Loretto, Kentucky. Produced by Beam Suntory, it is a wheated bourbon made with soft red winter wheat and aged in virgin American white oak. Their Wood Finishing Series is a collection of bourbons, each of which is a unique expression crafted with a distinctive wood-finishing technique that enhances the bourbon's natural flavors. The previous set of five releases in the series were considered chapter one; “The Heart Release” kicks off chapter two and focuses on the teams behind the creation of Maker's Mark bourbon. The bourbon is finished with two different types of virgin French oak staves, ten staves each, with one set inserted into the barrel for five weeks, and the other for nine weeks. This is, then, a bourbon with a big oak profile, supported by a rich tapestry of caramel, vanilla, and baking spices.
