Produced by Midleton Distillery, Green Spot is a non-age-statement single pot still Irish whiskey. It dates from 1887 and was originally bottled for Mitchell & Sons. The term “Green Spot” refers to a Mitchell & Sons family tradition of marking barrels of maturing whiskey with paint to indicate their age. They used to sell Green, Yellow, Red and Blue Spot whiskies but only Green and Yellow remain today. The Green Spot Château Léoville Barton starts out as a traditional Green Spot Irish Whiskey which is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon casks (75%) and ex-Oloroso sherry casks (25%) for 7-10 years. That whiskey is then put into French Oak casks previously used to age wine from the Château Léoville Barton in Bordeaux and set aside to finish for 12-24 months to give the whiskey added richness and depth. Quite malty on the nose and on the palate, it has flavor notes of vanilla, lemon curd and spice with a long, oaky finish.
