Produced by Midleton Distillery, Gold Spot is a single pot still Irish whiskey. The “Spot” whiskies date from 1887 and were originally bottled for Mitchell & Sons. The “Spot” in the name refers to a Mitchell & Sons family tradition of marking barrels of maturing whiskey with different colors of paint to indicate their age. This “Gold Spot,” however, is a special limited release edition celebrating the 135th anniversary of the Mitchells whiskey bonding tradition. Matured for at least nine years in a unique combination of bourbon barrels, sherry butts, Bordeaux wine casks, and port pipes, it is non-chill-filtered and bottled at 102.8 proof for a whiskey that is complex and full-flavored. Rich pot still spices enliven the palate and the finish is rich and lasting, with the intricate nature of the wine casks and pot still spices lingering.
