Onetime film and TV producer Daniel de la Nuez got interested in distilling a few years ago, inspired by a friend of his, Aaron Fox, who was already “doing it himself.” They launched their project, Forthave, in January of 2017 in the Pfizer building on the border between Bed-Stuy and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Starting with three spirits− Red, an aperitivo, an amaro called Marseilles, and Blue, an American dry gin – they have since added several other items, including a nocino and this coffee liqueur. “Brown” is the result of a collaboration between Forthave and Brooklyn’s Cafe Integral. It is made with a single origin coffee bean – pacamará ambar – grown by Don Sergio Ortez in Nicaragua and roasted in Brooklyn. A combination of a cold brew extraction and a ground bean maceration, it is essence of coffee, overlaid with notes of dried fruits, balsamic, and dark chocolate.
