This hew entry in the gin category is being billed as “The Cocktail Gin,” and with good reason: benefiting from the input of some of the world’s best bartenders, it is the result of a collaboration between 8th generation master distiller Charles Maxwell and gin expert Simon Ford. Ford’s plan was to take elements from all of his favorite gins and combine them in one well-rounded gin. He considered all the classic gin cocktails and broke them down by their flavor profiles, pairing the flavors with the many popular botanicals found in gin to determine the most versatile mix of them possible. The final recipe is juniper-driven, supported by coriander, lemon, bitter orange, grapefruit, cassia, angelica, jasmine, and orris root. Soft, aromatic, fresh and floral, this is a rather atypical London dry gin more balanced than most, with a nice subtlety to the blending.
