Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, the Faccia Bruto distillery was founded in the spring of 2020 by Patrick Miller, the former executive chef of Rucola. Miller grew up in an Italian-American household, for which he credits his love for Old World Italian spirits. Early times though this may be for Miller, he can already boast three prestigious awards from the 2020 NY International Spirits Competition: one for Distillery of the Year, a Gold for his Aperitivo, and a Bronze for his Fernet Pianta. “Centerbe” is Italian for “100 herbs,” and while this may come a little short of a hundred, there are certainly well over twenty different botanicals here, herbs, leaves, and seeds, some fresh and some dried, Patrick’s take on a classic Italian bittersweet elixir, a style of botanical amaro found in Abruzzo (with the slightest of bows to Green Chartreuse). The medicinal notes are balanced with the freshness of the ingredients, for an herbal liqueur that is both refreshing and delicious.
