With the help of a small loan, Don Julio Gonzalez started his first tequila distillery, La Primavera, in the Jaliscan Highlands, in 1942. Almost from the start, beginning in 1947, the same three jimador families have worked with the distillery, harvesting the agave plant by plant, picking and cutting the leaves by hand, assuring the same level of quality Don Julio has always been known for. Alma Miel is something new for Don Julio, a joven tequila (a blend of aged and unaged tequilas . . . in this case, a blend of Blanco tequila distilled with oven-roasted agave honey and Añejo tequila which has been aged for at least 14 months and finished in Crémant du Limoux barrels. The result is a tequila with slightly sweet notes of agave honey, spiced orchard fruit, creamy caramel, and rich roasted agave creating a smooth sipping tequila.
