Craigellachie is one of the brands produced in the John Dewar & Sons “Last Great Malts” range. The distillery was founded in 1891 right in the middle of Speyside; it was built by Peter Mackie, who already owned Lagavulin distillery and was the creator of the White Horse blend. Today Craigellachie remains a big operation, with a capacity of a million gallons each year, and much of this output has gone into Dewar’s blended whisky. This 13-year-old is the entry-level bottling in this line, bright and fresh on the nose, loaded with flavor but still somewhat rustic, with lively citrus and vanilla, cloves, pungent honeysuckle, and melon notes.
