Giuseppe Contratto founded the company in Piedmont that bears his name in 1867. The company remained with the family for 126 years until, in 1993, the estate was acquired by Carlo Bocchino who in turn sold it in 2011 to the noted winemaker Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta. Today a UNESCO World Heritage site, Contratto produces only traditional-method sparkling wine and some selected spirits under the watchful eye of Rivetti, and his talented son, Andrea. The Bitter is a fairly new addition to the Contratto spirits line. Contratto’s artisanal and 100% natural version of Campari, it is based on a Contratto recipe from the 1030s. Made with all-natural herbs abd spices, this is a high-quality alternative for Campari in cocktails.
