Basil Hayden's Bourbon dates back to 1796, when master distiller Basil Hayden used a traditional corn base, but mixed in small grains with the mash. Today the Basil Hayden’s is one of the most popular brands in the Beam-Suntory portfolio. This new bourbon from Basil Hayden uses brown rice as the flavoring grain instead of rye or wheat. It is a mingling of finished and unfinished bourbon, with some of the some of the brown rice bourbon finished in toasted barrels; that finished bourbon is then mixed back in with unfinished brown rice bourbon to create the final product. The result is a gentle bourbon, ideal for the novice bourbon drinker, with lingering brown sugar sweetness, baking spices, and oak.
