Southern Styria is a traditional production area which enjoys excellent growing conditions, especially for white grapes; for this reason, 95% of the vineyard area at Manfred Tement's property is devoted to white varieties and only 5% to red wine grapes. The estate lies on a narrow plateau, close to the border with Slovenia, and in fact Manfred now owns property across the border, the former holdings of the Carmelites where Manfred's father once was winemaker. Today Manfred’s son Armin is in charge, and it is widely considered that he has made Tement Austria’s No. 1 wine producer. His Sauvignon Blanc is the winery’s flagship, sourced from a unique terroir of 55 plots mainly on coralline limestone soil. The result is an incomparable and unique wine with great depth and minerality.
