“Vino di Anna” is a small, family wine estate situated high on the northern slopes of Mt Etna, near the village of Solicchiata. Anna Martens and Eric Narioo made their first wine together on Mount Etna in 2008. In 2010, the couple purchased their first vineyard of old bush vines of Nerello Mascelese in Contrada Crasà, along with a neighboring, derelict Etnean palmento and wine cellar. Today, with a team of locals, they cultivate organically twenty acres of terraced land, divided into small vineyard plots and olive groves scattered across the north face of the volcano. The majority of the vineyards are old bush vines (60 – 100 yrs old) of Nerello Mascalese interspersed with indigenous whites (Grecanico, Catarratto, Carricante). This Rosso is mostly Nerello Mascalese, with small amounts of Nerello Capuccio and Alicante blended in; it has aromas of cherries and blood oranges, a palate of red fruit and spice, and a long finish that is typical of wines from volcanic soils.
