“Vino di Anna” is a small, family wine estate situated high on the northern slopes of Mt Etna, near the village of Solicchiata. Anna Martens and Eric Narioo made their first wine together on Mount Etna in 2008. In 2010, the couple purchased their first vineyard of old bush vines of Nerello Mascelese in Contrada Crasà, along with a neighboring, derelict Etnean palmento and wine cellar. Today, with a team of locals, they cultivate organically twenty acres of terraced land, divided into small vineyard plots and olive groves scattered across the north face of the volcano. The majority of the vineyards are old bush vines (60 – 100 yrs old) of Nerello Mascalese interspersed with indigenous whites (Grecanico, Catarratto, Carricante). This Bianco is an intriguing blend of Grecanico, Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Carricante, and Cattaratto; with fresh citrus and a whisper of florals, it is dry, crisp and fresh on the palate with lemon and grapefruit, subtle nuttiness and an underlying salty minerality on the finish.
