Trail Marker Wine Company bills itself as a “Huffine Virgil Production,” the joint effort of Drew Huffine, head winemaker at Lioco Wines, and his wife Emily Virgil. For this, his own label, Drew sources from small vineyards throughout the state, anywhere from Mendocino to Santa Ynez. The wines reflect his stylistic preferences, for well balanced expressions that tend in the directions of lower alcohol and higher acidity. This Pinot, for example, is made from grapes from the Saveria and Ferrari Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains; made using partial whole cluster fermentation, it is fresh and aromatic with a cool climate profile
