Stefania Carrea inherited her ten acres of vineyards from her father, Matteo (Matè is the local dialect for Matteo, hence Terre di Matè), while her brother got the other half of the property. They used to work together, but he’s a conventional farmer, and she’s very much organic and non-interventionist, so she broke off to work on her own. Her vineyards, located in southern Piedmont on the border with Liguria, are planted entirely to Cortese; she sells 90% of the fruit to other winemakers and makes her own wine from the remaining 1.23-acres. This "L'Anfora Bianco" is vinified in large clay vessels with six months of skin contact, bottled unfined with minimal sulphur; it shows impressive weight and texture, with notes of apple skins, wild herbs, and crushed walnuts.
