Terra di Briganti is a small organic family winery located in the rolling hills of Benevento in the Campania region of Italy. The De Cicco family, after many years of residence in Germany, returned to their roots in Campania, where brothers Toni and Romeo started their winery, releasing their first vintage in 2004. From the start they were committed to working organically/biodynamically, and their vineyards became Demeter-certified in 2018. Their other serious commitment has been to grapes that are native to the region, and they have been instrumental in the revival of the red grape called Sciascinoso, a varietal that survived phylloxera but was nonetheless almost forgotten. The brothers clearly have a sense of humor: the winery is named for the outlaws and freedom fighters that once frequented to region, and “Benepop” is a play on the name of the region itself (Benevento0. This blend of Fiano and Falanghina is a pet nat, a natural sparkling wine bottled during the fermentation process; with fine bubbles, the wine has floral and citrus notes and a yeasty roundness, quite dry on the palate with good acidity and a long finish.
