Founded more than 20 years ago by Thomas Stolpman, this wine estate enjoys a truly remarkable viticultural site in Ballard Canyon in California’s Central Coast. Hidden in the hills of the Central Coast, on a rare limestone outcropping and unobstructed from the Pacific wind, it is a site especially suited to Rhone varietals. Tom and his wife Marilyn remain actively involved in the winery, but day-to-day operations are now in the hands of son Peter and his wife Jessica. This Sauvignon Blanc comes largely from vines planted on a limestone outcropping on Stolpman’s Ballard Canyon property in 1999, augmented for the first time in this vintage with grapes from some of viticulturist Ruben Solorzano’s other vineyards. This is classic Sauvignon Blanc, done 80% in stainless steel and 20% in large French oak barrels. It is characteristically zingy, fresh, crisp and salty, but with those qualities moderated by both the low elds and the warmth of the 2023 vintage.
