Spy Valley Wine's name is derived from a nearby Satellite Communications Monitoring Station in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough . . . as Spy Valley owners Bryan and Jan Johnson put it, “a spy base!” The Johnsons founded Spy Valley in 1993 and the enterprise remains family-run today. Their 450 acres of vineyards, once considered too hard and dry for grape growing, have happily proved quite the opposite. Sauvignon Blanc is rightly considered their flagship offering, classic Marlborough, with a restrained grassy nose and flavors of grapefruit and green apple and a long and vibrant finish.
