Borgo Savaian di Bastiani Stefano has been family-owned and run for three generations in Cormons, a small region of Friuli that lies a mere seven miles from the border with Slovenia. The estate covers 45 acres alongside Mount Quarin, and the family focuses on indigenous varieties farmed sustainably. “Aransat” is Friulian slang for “orange,” so this is an orange wine, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio fermented/macerated on their skins in stainless steel for ninety days, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. A great introduction to this category, the wine has flavors of dried apricots and jasmine and is amazingly crisp and refreshing.
