Duncan Savage was for 14 years winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards before embarking on his own venture, setting up his own winery in Salt River, Cape Town in 2016. Cape Point Vineyards is located on the Cape Peninsula, roughly half a mile from the Atlantic, and Savage’s time there left him with an understand of, and appreciation for, maritime vineyards, and he has thus chosen to source grapes from maritime and high altitude vineyard sites. This bottling comes from a block of 32-year-old bush vine Sauvignon Blanc in Stellenbosch, where not just the vine age but the elevation and windiness connected with Savage. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel, concrete eggs, and old barrels, the wine has flavors of yellow fruit and citrus with lovely mineral tension and a fresh saline finish.
