The winery was founded in 1982 and purchased by the Tipa Bertarelli Family in 2016. San Giorgio is the sister estate of the highly esteemed Poggio di Sotto in Castelnuoco dell’ Abate, and its estate vineyards are essentially an extension of those of Poggio di Sotto. As such, the Sangiovese Grosso cultivated here benefits from the same climatic conditions, soils, and exposures as its world-renowned sibling. As part of the Collemassari Group of estates, San Giorgio's vines are now managed and vinified by the same team as Poggio di Sotto. Named for the 12th-century bandit who led the people of Montalcino in revolt against the power of Siena, this is a flavorful and delicious Brunello with lots of ripe plum and fresh flowers on the nose follow through to a full body with layers of fruit and polished yet chewy tannins.
