In 1991, at 22 years old, Paul Achs took the lead of the family winery in Gols, Austria, near the border with Hungary, where his family had been actively involved in the wine industry since 1684. Just four years later he was named winemaker of the year by Falstaff, the Austrian wine guide. His stylistic hallmarks are elegance and richj finesse, as exemplified here by this Chardonnay. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large French and Austrian oak barrels, this is a white with a distinctively mineral character, coupled with citrus zest and chalky undertones; it is well structured, with juicy acidity and a silky texture.
