The Papagiannakos Winery in Markopoulos is in the Mesogeia region of Attica, an area with a rich grape-growing tradition. The facility reflects the ecological sensitivities of the winemaker and owner of the first bioclimatic winery in Greece. Vassilis Papagiannakos is particularly known for his championing of the indigenous varietal Savatiano, the grape that he uses to make this stunning version of retsina, one that will disabuse you of any prejudices about the style of winemaking. This is a refreshing wine, crisp and lively, rich with lavender and pine notes and an almost minty quality.
