Niepoort has been an independent family business since 1842; it is now run by fifth-generation family member Dirk Niepoort who joined the firm in 1987 and oversaw the acquisition of the firm’s first vineyards. Their Ports are made in a fairly modern, youthful style. . Colheita Ports are Tawny Ports from a single harvest aged in wood for at least seven years before being bottled. This 1997 is medium-bodied, dense and silky, with aromas and flavors of honey, cedar, and dried fruit. A pleasure to drink now, it is sure to iimprove with even further bottle age.
