This is a small family operation, founded in 1968 in Barbaresco by Giuseppi Talliano and his wife, but taken over in 1994 by their son Luciano who now farms the land sustainably, implementing biodynamic practices wherever possible. A dedicated proponent of traditional Piedmontese wine, Luciano works almost exclusively with indigenous grape varietals and prefers to avoid using modern techniques, relying instead on the history of the family domaine and the teachings of his father to guide his hand. Chardonnay is, of course, hardly an indigenous varietal (although this particular vineyard was planted to Chardonnay some fifty years ago0, but we’ll happily cut Luciano some slack, given the results! Done in a 25/75 combination of new oak and stainless steel, this is an elegant, fresh, aromatic Chardonnay with intense notes of tropical fruit on the nose and the palate.
