Founded by two brothers, Bill and Ross Spence, Matua Valley produced New Zealand’s first Sauvignon Blanc in a tin shed outside of Auckland in 1974. Ten years later the brothers moved operations to the Marlborough region on the South Island. Matua is now part of Australia-based Treasury Wine Estates, one of the world’s largest wine companies, with operations in France, Italy, and the US as well as Australia and New Zealand. Matua continues a leader in the New Zealand wine industry and was named producer of the year in 2016. This is classic Sauvignon Blanc, with ripe citrus notes and hints of passionfruit and basil. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with classic notes of melon and cut grass.
